Boring Baby…I don’t think so

June 17th, 2009 by Kendra

My best friend from high school is having a baby. She’s has her own, non-traditional, rocker-punk kind-of style that completely fits her attitude. Oh, and she plays in a band and is a blackbelt. Needless to say, your typical cute baby garb is not for her. So, Ive made her some bibs that are more her style.

The kid is hip already and doesn’t even know it!

What kind of person is the mom-to-be that you know? Urban Threads and Amazing Designs have all kinds of embroidery designs, from hip to traditional, rocker to whimsical (designs in the image are from Urban Threads).

A Family Heirloom

June 15th, 2009 by Kelly

My sister recently asked me to make my new little nephew a Christening gown, since it has now become a tradition, that I make the Christening gowns for the children in the family. She wanted something classic and simple and not too frilly. I chose this Vintage day gown style pattern from Simplicity Pattern Company for the long gown with ties (pictured in blue) with a slip.s29002

I appliquéd a cross to each side in the lower corner, using a piece of sentimental fabric (it was a piece originally from her wedding gown!). Then I used the vine corners section from Designer’s Gallery Floral Accents to create my own vine corner design. 100_3951cgforweb

Added a few of the tiniest hot fix crystals I could find for accent, some satin ribbon for the ties, a decorative thread serger hem and some lace on the slip and it was done in a flash! Here is how it turned out!

Doesn’t he look handsome!

…Then Comes Baby

June 1st, 2009 by Kendra

babyDo you remember that song we sang in elementary school while jumping rope –
…First comes love,
Then comes marriage,
Then comes baby in the baby carriage.

I’m at that age where my married friends are starting to have children;  the baby showers out number the wedding showers. But, finding the right gift for my friends is tricky. I want to get them something that is funny, different and personal — something that they will keep and pass down. Having been up and down the baby aisle numerous times, nothing on the market fits my idea. So, we’ve decided to make our own!

Over the next couple of weeks we’ll post baby projects and ideas. Some are inspired by items found on the market, while others are more unique. And, if you have any ideas that you’d like to share, we’d love to hear them!
